This is the comprehensive view of US naval aviation from its start to 2014, much recommended. The now very familiar IoW format provides a visualisation of war that is difficult to fully describe in words. However, there is clear and concise text in support of the rare images and nicely complements the images. This is probably the only book in the series to cover such a wide period of history. Most series editions cover a single war and even a single campaign. Even so, the author has not neglected any aspect of this history. Even the earliest photographs are reproduced to a high standard. The photo story follows the earliest fixed wing aircraft, airships, flying boats, seaplanes, carriers and crews as the US Navy moved from frail biplanes and dirigibles to metal monoplanes, and from propeller to jet. Images are mainly in monochrome but there is a small section of excellent full colour images. This book is a very welcome addition to the series and to available information about naval aviation.
