There is useful illustration through the body of the book in full colour. This is achieved by photography of military re-enactors. A very high level of detail is visible.
The period 500 BC to 338 BC stretches from the Persian Wars to the Macedonian victory at the Battle of Chaeronea. This is a period that is covered by many books, translating, or researching, original Greek accounts, but never in this level of accessible detail. The heavy infantry is described but also the light infantry, archers, skirmishers and cavalry.
This is a very important addition to our knowledge of the military during this period.
