gamers and military history enthusiasts. The high photographic content provides

The traditional war gaming, based on carefully researched dioramas, continues to attract new followers, some of whom also war game on-line. The rapid development of digital war gaming has enjoyed spectacular growth but mainly by attracting new war gamers who were not already following traditional war gaming. That may suggest that new digital war gamers want instant gratification, where all that is required is the equipment to play war games that have been already produced by someone else. Traditional war gaming requires a different approach. Much of the enjoyment is derived from careful research, model building and maintaining a unique collection of models. Having created the tools of the trade, the war gamer then goes on to pit knowledge and skill against other war gamers at a gathering that also allows a level of social interchange that is not part of digital war gaming.

This new book provides a wealth of information both about the trenches and buildings and about war gaming with them. There is information about models the subjects and about researching the WWI artefacts and battlefields.
