Battle Lines, The Western Frontby Car by Bike and On Foot, The Retreat From Mons 1914: South, Etreux to the Marne

B2173

A valuable addition to an excellent series that provides the history, the background and the current environment of the start of a terrible conflict, where British arms produced a form of victory from what seemed inevitable defeat, as the tiny BEF battled a very much larger German force. The book provides a first class guide for all those who wish to know more about the events and the people and who may intend to visit the battlefields.

This book is highly commended and will satisfy a range of readers.

DESCRIPTION: A valuable addition to an excellent series that provides the history, the background and the current environment of the start of a terrible conflict, where British arms produced a form of victory from what seemed inevitable defeat, as the tiny BEF battled a very much larger German force. The book provides a first class guide for all those who wish to know more about the events and the people and who may intend to visit the battlefields.

Having reviewed other titles in the series, it is very difficult to think what to write for this new book. The first comment is that the book is a worthy companion to the other titles in the series and provides a clear and descriptive commentary that is lavishly illustrated. It will make life very much easier for those intending to visit the battlefields. It will provide a context for those intending to develop an understanding of the battles.

As with the other titles in the series, the book can stand alone and there will be readers who want to discover a past family member who was there and that desire could be confined to just one part of the battles that followed or took place further down the battle lines.

This book is highly commended and will satisfy a range of readers.
