The last few years have seen much change in publishing as new media come into play, but in many areas, there is no substitute for a printed book. Fortunately, recent changes have seen well-loved imprints ending up in safe hands and the Adlard Coles Nautical imprint is one such. This new edition of a very popular title is now in its fifth reprint and it has been fully revised. An excellent and very valuable pocket book.
Established readers of Conway’s famous Warship annual will be delighted to know that it fully subscribes to its well-established reputation and follows the familiar format. New readers will find this an absorbing and varied review of naval technology and operations, past, present and future. Highly Recommended.
Another great edition.
Seaforth is a Pen & Sword imprint with an impeccable reputation in bringing to market outstanding naval history. This new book will only add to the reputation. Working with the National Maritime Museum, Seaforth has produced the first in a multi-volume series, using the epic work of Richard Perkins. This work was based on Perkins huge library of photographs of warships and was ended only by the outbreak of World War Two and the restrictions imposed for security reasons. Volume I covers Capital Ships from 1895-1939. This work will be of great importance to all professionals and enthusiasts with an interest in this significant period of naval history. The publisher is also offering aggressive discounts for the launch period of the book which should ensure a wider audience – if you follow this period of naval history, don’t miss this book.

This book contains a very fine selection of images from the battles around Ypres. This type of book makes the term ‘author’ tricky. Carruthers has used text sparingly and relied on the power of the images to tell the story. Whether that makes him an author or an editor is arguable, but the result of his labours is a moving tribute to those who fought and provided so many unique glimpses of what it was like to be there. It also provides a tribute to those who brought the story to the public in a unique way. Most Recommended.
The Battle of the Somme in 1916 has been the subject of much controversy. In part, this stems from the way in which it has been viewed. This book is well researched and views the battle through the prism of the first day. The author argues the case on this basis and the reader can see exactly how the review has been framed.Commended.
