This book looks closely at the development of tactics, weapons and armour of the Bronze Age that have been largely overlooked because of the frequent assumption that the Iron Age created the basis of later warfare. Central to the review is the examination of replica arms and armour that have recreated full-scale examples of military equipment that is largely recognized from drawings and sculpture.

Ambush, Surprise Attack in Ancient Greek Warfare
This book will appeal to all those interested in Greek history and legend, but it should also appeal to a much wider audience because it has strong relevance to modern insurgencies and, in particular, the situation in Afghanistan today
The RAF’s Air War in Libya, New Conflicts in the Era of Austerity
The author has examined and considered all of the implications and of the conduct of the air war. The text is supported by an interesting black and white photo plate section, his is a book that should be widely read
The Atlantic Wall, History and Guide
The authors have made an exhaustive study of their subject and this must be the most complete account of the building and operation of the Atlantic Wall. Extensive illustration by drawings, sketches, maps and photographs through the body of the text has enabled the authors to show how the defences developed and the technologies employed to build the wall and the Allied developments to destroy it. Although the Atlantic Wall failed to keep the Allies out, it has left an extensive and impressive collection of fortifications on a scale to rival the Great Wall of China.
The First Blitz, The German Air Campaign Against Britain 1917-1918
The author has provided the most definitive account of this first use of terror bombing on civilians, after extensive research over several years. This is an important work because it covers a critical development path for aviation and was a major justification in forming the RAF to return the compliment.
The Hunters and the Hunted, The Elimination of German Surface Warships Around the World 1914-1915
The story of the hunt for German raiders is a thrilling tale, told well. The book also has a black and white plate section to support the text, including an artists impression of the raider Wolf employing her scout plane during the attack on a Japanese merchant vessel Hitachi Maru.
Vickers Wellington, 1936 to 1953 (all marks and models), Owner’s Workshop Manual
It is incredible that such and important warplane, built in great numbers, and playing a vital role in Bomber Command, should not be represented by at least one airworthy example. Unfortunately, very few examples survive on static display. It is also amazing that Barnes Wallace is not better known for his design of the Wellington and the innovative geodetic construction system. Most will know him only as the designer of the dam Buster’s bouncing bomb, and some may also know him for his 5 ton and 10 ton earthquake bunker busting bombs which were used to sink the Tirpitz and destroy key German bunkers and railway tunnels.
Kugisho E14Y Glen, The aircraft that bombed America, Whit Series No 9116
The authors have provided a beautifully illustrated account of the Japanese Navy’s experiments with aircraft-carrying submarines and the only bombing attack ever to be carried out on the Continental United States.
Blackbeard, The Hunt for the World’s Most Notorious Pirate
Three authors have combined their talents to produce a fascinating search for the truth about Blackbeard. The book is seamless and absorbing. Whether they succeeded in their quest is arguable but following their discoveries and conjectures is entertaining and informative.
