The author uncovered the surprising and unknown facts of this West Midlands town in the Great War. – Highly Recommended. Located on the River Seven near Kidderminster, Bridgnorth made sacrifices as did most towns and cities in the British Isles during the Great War. The young men and not so young flocked to the colours and those joining the Army suffered heavy casualties. Sons of Bridgnorth also served at sea and in the air and the civilians attempted to fill the jobs vacated by the volunteers, usually by training women to do the work. The author, a local historian, has written an enthralling review of the Bridgnorth contribution to the war and the heavy cost paid for helping towards eventual victory. This book will of course appeal strongly to local people and to those with family in the area at the time. As with each of the other books in the series, it provides a detailed local insight and will be valued by a much wider readership, providing a view of all the elements relating to Bridgnorth, including local heroes who were recognized for gallantry and special services during the war.
