The horrors of war on the Western Front led to a mountain of dead and extensive war graves. After 1918, a great deal of work was done to bring all of the remains from often hasty wartime interment to well-ordered and impressive formal cemeteries. The four major memorials in the Arras area commemorate the dead of a series of bloody battles that were fought around Arras, Vimmy, Vis-en-Artois and also for the airmen who lost their lives over the battlefields.

There is a modest photo-plate section that supports the text well.

This is a superb reference work that has been based on extensive research and completes the trilogy of books by the author, Visiting the Fallen, Arras North and Arras South.
