DESCRIPTION: The Wiley Cruising Companions are very interesting books. They are aimed at the cruising sailor, but they also provide a great deal of general information about ports and attractions ashore that will be of great interest to those who visit the area by land and to those who combine land and coastal travel. A yacht skipper will use other materials for navigation, with this book as a supporting guide, although for an adventurer, in a small yacht, it would be possible to navigate using this cruising guide alone. The Aegean and Mediterranean coastline of Turkey provides one of the finest cruising areas in the region and some will feel that it provides cruising to compare with the finest in the world. There is a multitude of islands, some uninhabited, attractive ports with ancient buildings, a wealth of ancient history, excellent weather, clear waters, sheltered bays and beaches, everything for an adventure cruise. At the same time it offers modern and well-equipped marinas, boats from hire and charter, flotilla sailing and longer experience for anyone with their own yacht and the time to cruise extensively. Where this book is essential reading is that it provides everything to plan a cruise, or to plan a visit with some boat hire or use of ferries. There is a great deal of practical advice from Visas to shopping, key regulations, Turkish alphabet, useful words and phrases and Turkish nautical terms. Illustration is in full colour with many photographs and charts. For each harbour, there is position, followed by a brief description, numbers for Turkish, Imray and Admiralty charts, information on mooring and anchoring, followed by detailed information, including taxis, buses, and airports. The section has colour photographs, a port chart and chart of a larger area shared with several other port sections. This cruising companion will repay itself several times over, excellent value.
