DESCRIPTION: First published in 1763, this new carefully edited
edition contains many illustrations. Essential reading for all
historical swordfighters and students of martial arts and military
history, much recommended.

This was the premier book on swordfighting for the 18th Century and
was highly influential as a fencing treatise. It includes clear
text that is supported by a host of well-drawn illustrations. The
editing has been careful and makes the annotated text fully
accessible to the modern reader.

At the time of its publication, this combat manual described what
was still an active weapon, carried by most gentlemen, used in battle
and in duels. Its sporting use at the time was in training for live
combat. Today, it is still applicable to sports fencing and essential
instruction for historians and re-enactment groups.

A very nicely produced book that retains the authentic feel of the
original.
