The History of the Ship

B1293

A new edition reworked and updated in softback. This has resulted in a very low recommended retail price that makes it very affordable. As this is likely to be a book that is much used and referred to the binding may not stand up well unless some care is taken, but at the price its easy enough to buy a replacement. Reviewing a book of this detail is always a challenge because there is so much information that even after reading it several times there is still much to absorb. The author has considerable sea-going experience and was already much published when this title was first released in 1997. He has covered an enormous subject in a single volume and the work feels comprehensive the labour of many years of research. Particularly in the early chapters covering the first few thousand years of sailing, there is solid new information on periods that have received very little coverage before. Even in the more recent and better covered period of ship technology there are new insights
