DESCRIPTION: This DVD has been produced by selecting and editing original wartime film footage. Primarily the footage is from German archives and some clips include the original sound track. The quality is generally good and features footage not seen since WWII. The period covered is that of retreat to German borders and the fight to slow the Soviet advance into Germany. The technical quality of German tanks was much higher than that of the Soviet armour, but the reliability of the new German tanks was lower, partly because of a lack of spare parts and partly because the technical superiority had been achieved by increasing complexity. The Soviets also had the advantage of larger numbers of troops and armoured vehicles, with an even greater superiority in artillery and rocket launchers. The DVD includes footage of the evacuation of Germans and pro-Germans from the Baltic States and eastern Germany. This is an evocative video record of Germany in retreat. The DVD includes bonus archive film and stills galleries.
