The text is crisp and comprehensive with excellent full colour images in illustration, together with a folded map of the beaches – Most Highly Recommended. This book follows the very successful approach employed by the husband and wife team who celebrated their Diamond Anniversary in 2018. Much care and feeling has gone into a guide that provides everything the reader could require, whether they intended joining a guided tour, making their own private pilgrimage to the Normandy Landing Beaches, or taking an armchair tour of the sites. The double-sided, folded map is to a scale of 1:116,000, printed in full colour and with one side showing the US beaches and the reverse showing the British and Canadian beaches, together with British Airborne Operations. This map is ideal for planning a visit and taking along to the beaches. Although the guide book itself is pocketable, it does require a large pocket and it has weight, so that the map is a very handy assistant, particularly in good weather when clothing may offer few suitable pockets. The map not only provides a normal map display but it also includes very good margin notes of memorials and other key features. As with other guides from these authors, the content is broken into logical sections and the high quality colour images are reproduced through the body of the guide book. The considerable volume of information is easy to access. This is the ultimate guide and if only one is purchased, it must be this one.
