The author has produced a great debut book. Female killers through history have received less coverage than they deserve and this book sets out a selection of killers through history that proves the female can be as deadly as the male. The illustrations add to the text – Highly Recommended.

Female killers through history have received less coverage than they deserve and this book sets out a selection of killers through history that proves the female can be as deadly as the male. The illustrations add to the text – Highly Recommended. The selection of murders provides a very interesting group of women from various backgrounds and points in history. It is easy to wonder why a particular notorious woman has been left out, but these are after all women who have become notable in history and often killers with specific political motivation. In this selection the subjects are not well-known but each demonstrates a specific aspect of murder by females. There are the educated and affluent killers, the killers who can only be described as evil, the sad and the disadvantaged. The range of motives is as diverse as for men who kill. One factor that comes out is the demonstration that there were female serial killers and they were not a product of modern life. It has been often claimed that serial killers are a recent phenomena, but it is more a case of relative publicity and better criminal detection techniques. Many killers in history have escaped sanction because of a lack of policing and because communication was much more restricted. Many of the women from ancient history have become notorious without suffering any sanction at the time. Often they are remembered through the speculation of some historians. Each subject in this book is considered carefully by the author and the grim nature of the subject is relieved by the witty and dryly humorous style of the writing. The coverage is inciteful and leads the reader into the heart of depravity and darkness
