DESCRIPTION: The very popular Images Of War Series has another winner with
this latest addition. The Rhine Crossing has received remarkably little coverage,
with history dominated by Op Market Garden and Op Overlord. – Most Highly
Recommended.

The landings at Normandy marked the start of the end game and the airborne forces
attempt to secure a route into Germany through Holland demonstrated great courage
by the out-gunned and out-numbered British and Polish parachute and glider troops at
Arnheim. However, the crossing of the Rhine was essential to forcing a ceasefire and
surrender by German troops. Unlike 1918, the Germans would not be permitted to
retain their arms and Germany would be partitioned and occupied by the victorious
Allies.

The author provides good text to introduce the first rate selection of rare images and
supportive captions and extended captions. There are very good images of amphibious
vehicles and bridging equipment, together with the assault craft and the engineering
tanks. An essential addition to any library of WWII books.
