The German Navy, like many other navies, continued to build battleships. By WWII, the battleship was obsolescent, having been replaced by the aircraft carrier. The only real value of German battleships was to require the Royal Navy to maintain its own battleships as a direct counter, denying that funding to other more appropriate classes of warships.

This book packs in significant detail, reviewing the Scharnhorst Class and providing service history. There are many books on the Scharnhorst and its Class, several now out of print, but this is the most comprehensive book on the Class. This produces a very reliable reference work and the level of detail that model makers look for.
